And so this is Christmas...

I know, I know. Put two quirky people around someone else's very old, discarded holiday decorations and the dangerous happens. We are now the proud owners of two incredibly awesome Alpine Village sets (the standard and the skating pond). Someone on Ebay is bidding their hearts out and we scored these for pennies. I'm sure you'll believe me when I tell you we keep switching the lights off and squealing with delight. We're also a little over the moon about the tiny figurines, smaller than a dime, that have made their way throughout our home. We're still on the hunt for the perfect "flame" bulbs for the alpine log. We also scored a package of paper placemats from the 70's with amazing images from the Twelve Days of Christmas, bags of handmade ornaments, boxes of very old, thin, sparkly glass ball ornaments, a the most perfect glass ornamental tree topper I could have imagined. We went to the line at the Salvation Army with a full cart of what can only be called treasures, considering the way my heart was beating the entire time, and we paid less than the price of one box of new ornaments. (50% off day at Salvation Army, combined with the 30% weekly coupon is like my heaven - it almost doesn't seem fair).

We decorated to Christmas music and ate split pea soup and cheese bread to the animated Frosty the Snowman on VHS. Can you believe Andrew had never seen it? Sinful, really. It's cold and rainy outside, and it's been dark since around 3pm, so this kind of nesting is the perfect prescription for the weather. I'm hoping to share a bowl of mint chocolate chip ice cream with Andrew later while we try to get the most out of this very precious time together.
